Apple cider vinegar gummies are an easier way to include ACV in your day than drinking a diluted shot. The research on vinegar is small and mostly used liquid doses far larger than a gummy contains, and no health claims for apple cider vinegar are authorised in Great Britain. Side effects from a gummy are usually mild, and the best time to take one is with food, at whatever time you will remember every day.

What are apple cider vinegar gummies?

ACV gummies contain dried apple cider vinegar powder in a chewable gummy, usually 250 to 600mg per gummy. Some are made with the mother, the cloudy sediment of acetic acid bacteria that forms during fermentation. The main active compound in any vinegar is acetic acid.

Apple cider vinegar gummies benefits: what the research shows

Most vinegar studies have looked at blood sugar after meals, appetite and body weight. They have nearly all used liquid vinegar at 15 to 30ml a day, taken with meals, in small groups over a few weeks (for example Kondo et al., 2009). Results have been mixed and the studies too small to draw firm conclusions.

A gummy holds a fraction of the vinegar in a tablespoon of liquid, so these findings cannot be assumed to apply to gummies. That is why there are no authorised health claims for apple cider vinegar on the Great Britain nutrition and health claims register, and why a reputable UK brand should not promise weight loss, fat burning or detox.

What a gummy does offer is practical: no sour taste, nothing to measure, and no neat acid on your teeth, which makes it easier to keep up as a daily habit.

Apple cider vinegar gummies side effects

  • Stomach upset. Some people notice mild indigestion or nausea, especially on an empty stomach. Taking the gummy with food usually helps.
  • Sugar. Gummies contain sugar, from under half a gram to two grams or more each. Products that suggest several gummies a day add up.
  • Teeth. Liquid vinegar can erode enamel. Gummies avoid most of that, but like any sweet they are best eaten with a meal rather than nibbled through the day.
  • Medicines. Vinegar may add to the effect of diabetes medication and some diuretics. Check with your GP or pharmacist first if you take regular prescriptions.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have a stomach condition such as reflux, speak to your GP before starting.

When to take apple cider vinegar gummies

With or after a meal is the sensible default, as it is gentler on the stomach and matches how vinegar was taken in most studies. Beyond that, morning or evening makes little difference. Pick a time you will stick to, such as with breakfast, because consistency matters more than the clock.

Common questions

What are the benefits of apple cider vinegar gummies?

No health claims for apple cider vinegar are authorised in Great Britain. Research on vinegar is small and used much larger liquid doses. The main benefit of a gummy is that it is an easy way to include ACV in a daily routine.

Do ACV gummies have side effects?

Usually only mild ones, such as stomach upset on an empty stomach. Check with your GP if you take diabetes medication or diuretics, or if you are pregnant.

When is the best time to take apple cider vinegar gummies?

With or after food, at a time you will remember every day.

Can I take ACV gummies every day?

Yes, at the amount on the label. Do not exceed the stated daily dose.

Are ACV gummies better than liquid?

Liquid gives far more vinegar per dose; gummies are easier on teeth and taste. See our guide to ACV gummies vs liquid.
