Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies UK: Do They Work? The Evidence and the Doses

By the GUUDIES Editorial Team · Last reviewed 26 October 2026 · Sources listed at the end.

Disclosure: GUUDIES sells a daily pouch that includes an apple cider vinegar gummy. We have set out the evidence as it is, including where it does not support ACV gummies.

The short answer: the research on apple cider vinegar (ACV) mostly used one to two tablespoons of liquid vinegar a day, in small, short studies, and the results are modest and mixed. ACV gummies contain far less vinegar than that, and there are no authorised health claims for apple cider vinegar in Great Britain. ACV gummies are a convenient way to include ACV in a routine, not a treatment.

What doses did the studies use?

Amounts used in the research compared with one GUUDIES ACV gummy.
Source Amount per day Form
Kondo et al., 2009 (Japan, 12 weeks) 15ml or 30ml of vinegar (about 1 or 2 tablespoons) Liquid vinegar drink
Trials in the Hadi et al. 2021 meta-analysis Mostly up to around 30ml Liquid apple cider vinegar
One GUUDIES ACV gummy 600mg of apple cider vinegar with the mother Dried ACV in a pectin gummy

A tablespoon of liquid vinegar weighs roughly 15g. One gummy contains 600mg of ACV. These are not equivalent amounts, so results from liquid-vinegar studies cannot be assumed to apply to gummies, including ours.

Do apple cider vinegar gummies work for weight loss?

There is no good evidence that they do. The best-known study, Kondo et al. (2009), gave 155 adults with obesity a drink containing 15ml or 30ml of vinegar daily for 12 weeks. Both vinegar groups lost slightly more weight than the placebo group, on the order of one to two kilograms. That was liquid vinegar, in one population, in one trial.

A widely reported 2024 trial claiming large weight loss from ACV in young adults was retracted by its journal in September 2025 after concerns about its data and statistics, so it should no longer be relied on.

No weight-loss claims are authorised for apple cider vinegar in Great Britain. If you want to lose weight, your GP or a registered dietitian is the right place to start.

Does apple cider vinegar help blood sugar?

A 2021 meta-analysis of nine small randomised trials found that liquid ACV lowered fasting blood glucose, HbA1c and total cholesterol on average, mainly in people with type 2 diabetes and in studies longer than eight weeks (Hadi et al., 2021). The authors noted that many trials were small, most did not control diet, and some results depended on a single study.

No blood sugar claims are authorised for ACV in Great Britain. If you have diabetes or take medicine that affects blood sugar, talk to your GP before using vinegar in any form, as it could interact with your treatment.

Is liquid ACV or a gummy better?

Liquid carries much more vinegar per serving, which is what the studies used. It is also acidic: dentists advise against drinking it neat because repeated exposure is hard on tooth enamel, and many people find the taste puts them off. A gummy carries less but avoids washing acid over your teeth and is easier to keep taking. We compare the two in more detail in ACV gummies vs liquid.

What is in the GUUDIES ACV gummy?

Each ACV gummy contains 600mg of apple cider vinegar with the mother, in a pectin base. It is vegan, contains about 0.4g of sugar, and is one of six gummies in the daily GUUDIES pouch. We include it because many people want ACV in their routine and find a gummy easier than a daily shot, not because it has been shown to cause weight loss or change blood sugar.

How to choose ACV gummies in the UK

  • Milligrams per gummy: look for the amount of apple cider vinegar stated on the label, not just "ACV blend".
  • With the mother: the label should say so if it is included.
  • Sugar: many ACV gummies contain 1 to 2g of sugar each.
  • Gelatine or pectin: pectin gummies suit vegans and vegetarians.
  • Claims: be wary of weight-loss, detox or blood sugar promises. None are authorised for ACV in Great Britain.

Common questions

Do apple cider vinegar gummies work?

The research used liquid vinegar at around 15 to 30ml a day and found modest, mixed effects. Gummies contain much less vinegar, and there are no authorised health claims for ACV in Great Britain.

How much ACV is in one GUUDIES gummy?

600mg of apple cider vinegar with the mother.

Can ACV gummies replace liquid vinegar?

Not in terms of amount. A tablespoon of liquid vinegar is about 15g; a gummy contains 600mg.

Is apple cider vinegar safe to take every day?

In food amounts it is generally well tolerated. Liquid vinegar can harm tooth enamel and irritate the throat if taken undiluted. Check with your GP if you have diabetes, low potassium or take regular medication.
